Dick’s 1958 (?) Gretsch
DuoJet. "This is one of those oddball DuoJets that has an
early ‘50’s (in this case, 1954) serial number but other, more
meaningful appointments of a later build date. Mind you, they say that
all Gretsches are transitional models! This one has the late ‘50’s
"Neoclassic" thumbprint position markers on the neck, which
came in around 1958. Apparently, Cliff Gallup of Gene Vincent’s
Bluecaps, who played an early DuoJet, had become popular by this time
and Gretsch took advantage of the situation by digging out old bodies
routed for Dynasonics (Filtertrons were up and running by this time) and
putting guitars together with new and currently built necks. This is a
totally loveable little guitar with a great, big sound and the ability
to stay in tune for days at a time!"
