Dick’s 1959 Hofner Club 50.
"I always wanted a Club model Hofner since realising that John McNally
(he played a Club 60) of The Searchers was, quite obviously, the
greatest rhythm guitarist that ever lived! I found this one on the net
belonging to a guy who had moved to LA with a rather oddball guitar
collection that he had acquired whist living in Britain. It turned out
that he grew up a couple of miles down the road from where I live now!
It needed a neck re-set as do many old Hofners, a job which was expertly
carried out by the genial Mark Pressling. As long as you can spare the
time to figure out how the controls work, you find that these little
guitars have a very powerful, wiry sound that you simply can’t get
anywhere else. Light as a feather and a delight to play. Stock equipment
amongst those of us whose dads had a few spare bob to indulge us with
back in our teens – Lennon and McCartney included, it seems."
