Dick’s 1957-60 (actual
manufacturing date apparently untraceable despite serial number) Kay
Barney Kessel Pro. "Like Harmony, Kay made a crack at building a range of
high quality instruments for a relatively short period. They were
endorsed by Jazz player Barney Kessel, and sported his name on their
pick-guards and bore the famous, bonkers Kelvinator headstocks which
appear completely at odds style-wise to their otherwise comparatively
sedate designs. I think this is one of the most individual guitars I've
ever seen - "cute" is the best description I can think of. Can't
find a case to fit it, though! It's as deep as a regular archtop, its
body is tiny and its headstock enormous and at the moment it resides,
rather incongruously, in a gig bag. Bit sad, really."
