Issue No5
July 1998
The Free Church Defence Association believe that the times call for a strong re-affirmation of the principles of the Disruption Free Church as these were carried forward by the Constitutionalists in the years prior to 1900, at a time of similar difficulty and trial for the Church.

"Our Father in Heaven, give us
the long view of our work and
our world. Help us to see that
it is better to fail in a cause that
will ultimately succeed than to
succeed in a cause that will
ultimately fail....Through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen."

News Desk
The General Assembly
The following statement was issued as a press release by the Free Church Defense Association after the 1998 General Assembly.
The Free Church Defence Association welcome the decision of the 1998 General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland to:
- Rescind the censure imposed by the 1997 General Assembly on the Rev. Professor Hugh M Cartwright, the Rev. Angus Smith and Dr Murdoch Murchison, and
- Reaffirm the Church's stance on the Purity of Worship.
The Free Church Defence Association express their hope that these moves indicate a desire on the part of the majority within the Free Church to work for true unity based on the Church's strong foundation on the bible.
The Free Church Defence Association welcome the setting up of a special Commission to attempt to sort out some of the problems of the Church and pray that it will enjoy much success.
Presentation to Professor Hugh Cartwright
The Free Church Defence Association would like to thank all who contributed to the Professor Hugh Cartwright presentation. £2,000 was raised and this has now been presented to Professor Cartwright.
