Call and be Saved

Paul as the Apostle to the Gentiles had a deep concern for their salvation. It was his life's ambition. But he also had a passion for the conversion of the Jews. "My heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved" (Rom.10:1). We know that some who read this magazine are unconverted. Because we love you, we long to see you also finding Christ. Further, because we love God we desire to see everyone praising Him.

You Need to be Saved
We are all sinners. Sin will be punished. "The wages of sin is death" (Rom.6:23) and God always pays wages. He is angry because He made us for Himself but we live for the devil. Awful punishment awaits the unrepentant. Hell is a place of weeping and wailing and eternal gnashing of teeth. Fire is painful. Surely you need to be saved.

How Can You be Saved?
"Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Rom.10:13). Cry earnestly as someone trapped in a burning house would shout to be rescued. Call on the Lord Jesus who died on the cross to open a way of salvation. He is mighty to save. Many think they do enough when they attend church. But do not stop there. Obey the message. You are required to call.

What is it to be Saved?
Salvation is to be enabled to escape hell. Oh what peace enters when the fear of damnation is removed by assurance of God's love. Further, salvation involves deliverance from the terrible burden of guilt that crushes us. You are washed in the blood. It also means that you are liberated from sin's mastery over you. No longer are you addicted to sin. Now Christian things, which you once found boring, are your greatest delight. You rejoice in fellowship with God and He is preparing a home for you in heaven.

Who will be Saved?
"Whosoever" is a precious word. The "good tidings.... shall be to all people" (Lk.2:10). Praise God, salvation is to be presented to all. But what about election? Will God not have "mercy on whom he will have mercy and whom he will he hardeneth" (Rom.9:18)? True, yet He will have mercy on all who call upon Him. None will call but the elect. If you have a desire in your heart after God, take encouragement that God, Himself, put it there. Call on the Lord and you will be saved.
