Noah's Preaching

I was just a boy, but I remember the Rev. Kenneth MacRae's last sermon preached to a packed congregation in Stornoway. He was dying from cancer and in obvious weakness. Yet as a loving evangelist, his heart yearned for the salvation of his congregation. He vividly portrayed the people fleeing from the flood in Noah's day. Then, with all the passion he could muster, he pleaded with us to flee from the coming fire of God's judgment to the safety of Christ. Surely Noah's ark still speaks today!

A Warning
God told Noah He was going to destroy the earth with a flood because of the wickedness of mankind. This had never happened before, and there were no indications that it was about to happen, but Noah believed it because God said it. He was "moved with fear" (Heb.11:7). Some people despise "hell fire preaching". Yet it is vital because the masses love their pleasures and will not give them up and come to Christ unless moved by fear. Do you take death, judgment and hell seriously? Do you believe the warnings of the Bible or Satan's tempting promises?

A Gospel
Noah was commanded to prepare an ark. It was a massive task involving great expense and 120 years of labour. But God helped him, gathered the animals to him and miraculously preserved them all in the ark. Noah believed God and was saved. Friend, there is a gospel for you too. You are in danger of hell. But Jesus died and rose again. Believe in Him and you too will be saved. Flee to Christ the ark. Remember Lot's wife and do not look back.

A Condemnation
Noah condemned the people of his day by believing God and building the ark while they watched, sneering. Through his work and word, he preached to them for 120 years, but only his own family entered the ark with him. Others had the opportunity of salvation but rejected it and God shut the door (Gen.7: 16). Every Christian who consistently follows the Lord condemns by his behaviour those who do not. "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil" (Jn.3:19). Is your wife, father or friend, involuntarily condemning you?

An Inheritance
Noah became "heir of the righteousness which is by faith" (Heb.11:7). He not only inherited the whole earth but also righteousness. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. Receiving a crown of righteousness you will become an heir of heaven. It is free and for all who want it.
