Item 1: The President’s Opening Address Mr. David Rees: - (Written per sa)

Gentlemen, Good evening and welcome to the Annual General Meeting of the Three Counties Summer League, or more commonly known as the Rabbits League.

It’s particularly pleasing to see so many of you have made the journey to attend this evening.

I would like to thank Carmarthen Golf Club for once again allowing us to use their facilities for tonight’s meeting.

This past year has again seen some excellent matches in both pools, and it’s pleasing to see that all fixtures were completed. Both pools were again very competitive, particularly the relegation battle in pool a where 4 teams were involved in the fight to remain in that pool, and the promotion battle from pool B where again 4 teams were involved in securing the top two places.

The winners of pool A were Carmarthen, winning a total of six matches at home and 1 match away. They also claim 2 away halves, giving them a final total of 26 points, a clear 5 points in front of the runners up the Ashburnham. Many congratulations to Carmarthen, this year’s winners of pool A, and hard lines to the Ash. Relegation from pool A as mention was a hard fought affair which eventually led to Haverfordwest and Glynhir becoming the teams to drop into pool B for the 2012 season. Commiserations to both teams.

Promotion from pool B was also keenly contested with 4 teams vying for the top two positions which would take them into pool A for the forthcoming season. The champions were Glyn Abbey with a total of 31 points and runners up were Tenby who were just a point behind. Congratulations to both teams for a quick return to pool A from which they were relegated the previous year. Aberystwyth and Priskilly were unlucky to have lost out in the promotion battle as just 4 points separated the top four teams in pool B – a superb effort by all teams.

The winners of both pools will be presented with their trophies later this evening.

This years open was held a Aberystwyth who were celebrating their centenary year. A total of 74 players representing 10 clubs attended the day. In particular there was a good representation from who had a long way to travel. Amongst these were Tenby with 11 players attending and Priskilly with 8 players. Glynhir, Haverfordwest, and the Ashburnham had 7 players each at the event. Unfortunately I was not able to attend personally, but I understand that it was an enjoyable day. I believe our Chairman Gwilym will give some more details regarding the event in his address shortly this evening.

Earlier in the season the Executive Committee was asked to provide a ruling regarding the eligibility of players. This situation arose due to the association membership classification at Newport Golf Club.

After careful consideration, we the Committee felt that no transgression of the rules had taken place in the spirit of the game and the league, particularly when all players had CONGU handicaps. Therefore it was decided to take no action regarding the matter. If any member would like to discuss this matter further this evening I would suggest we bring it up later under “any other business”.

Finally some thank you’s

Thank you Bill Beynon, our secretary for another year’s sterling devotion to the league.

Bill works quite hard behind the scenes regarding the collating of results and league tables. Also with the writing up of the minutes of last years AGM and the general organisation of this league. Once again Bill, many thanks for all your input and effort.

The Three Counties Summer League is blessed with a fantastic friendship and friendliness that is hard to find in other sporting events or organisations. In my experience, all matches are enjoyed enthusiastically and visiting teams are made to feel very welcome at all of your respective golf clubs. That is a great reflection on you, the Captains, representatives and all players of our affiliated clubs. Well done all of you.

Item 9: Any Other Business: -

Mr. Stewart Evans Carmarthen Golf Club raised a requested that the minimum number of 8 pairs for matches be implemented. The discussion was widened to the restriction of low and high handicapped players playing together etc. A lengthy discussion ensued with the pros and cons of such a change and how the larger and smaller clubs would fare using such amendment. It was concluded by a show of 10 hands for to 4 against that the status quo remains.

Other changes that were agreed as a result of the above discussion were that parings are agreed for the weekend matches by 8pm on the Thursday. Any changes after would be to the detriment of the team seeking the change by point’s loss per pair. It was further acknowledged that no GPS distance measuring devices will be allowed in Three Counties Summer League matches or Competitions.

Finally with regard to the eligibility of players playing in the Three Counties Summer league that the ruling be amended to clarify “that members must have an active CONGU handicap and be only allowed to play for one club during a summer season”.
