This
cupboard was commissioned by friends of ours and was one of two similar style
pieces. It is constructed from Southern Yellow Pine from North America and
features Native Walnut wooden hinges and latch. The turned knobs on the drawer
are made from local Burr Oak.
Inside the cupboard section is an adjustable shelf. A useful piece providing
copious storage together with solid hand made country charm.
A
nautical theme this time, a client asked me to make this piece for his yacht
he had built entirely by his self. The boat had been fitted out using all
his own home grown timber mainly in Native oak along with some European Larch.
The table was constructed from a oak tree which was selected by both the clients
and my self on their land. I supervised the milling, then kiln dried the timber.
The Burr Oak was cut from one of the clients tree's many years earlier and
had been air drying in dry storage for some time.

The
top unfolds to double the available area whilst in port. At sea with the top
folded the fiddle rails help to prevent slippage's. The top folded surface
features quarter sawn oak matched saw cut veneers with a cross banding of
Burr Oak, whilst the unfolded surface features consecutive book matched Burr
Oak saw cut veneers with a quarter sawn oak cross banding. All the frame is
constructed from solid quarter sawn oak with fielded panels to both sides.
A cupboard section is featured at one side of the unit and drawers at the
other.
The drawers feature
solid cedar of Lebanon bases and are constructed with fine English hand cut
dovetails all round. Two hinged flaps which recess flush with the carcass
provide support for the opened top.
