The narrow front face is inlayed with
quarter sawn figured sycamore. The
legs taper on the inside faces only and
include delicate curved brackets at the
top. There is many hours of work and
concentration in making a piece to this
standard. The price could never reflect
a true amount of time spent.

Walnut Cabinet

The timber this cabinet is made from has a interesting story, the butt of the walnut tree had been lying in a
walled garden of a neighboring farm for many years
untouched. I only found out about it when the previous owner of the farm who is a friend happened
to mention that it may still be there. I made arrangements with the new owner of the property and
acquired what was left. The outer sap wood had
almost all rotted away but the heartwood was in
reasonable condition and suitable for use. After
sawing and seasoning there wasn't a huge amount
left but sufficient to make the owner a kist and myself
this cabinet. The timber shows all the characteristics of Native Walnut including bold grain pattern, dark
brown and black streaks, and the occasional piece of
Light cream colored sap wood. A lovely timber
to work and finish.
