much sought after; the - only - video
produced at the time (*new
videos, see below).
Jack also recorded a
series of vinyl LP's; one on 'Know Your
Fish'; one on dog training
'Know your Dog'; 'Know
Your Pony' (1977) and 'Country Walking'
(all Response Records),
Also released on cassette - all now highly
collectable
'The Old Country' - and presumably (although never seen) 'Out of Town' - were also produced as 'audio books'.
Early in his career Jack edited 'Lilliput' magazine, copies of which occasionally surface
He contributed to 'The
Angler's Bedside Book', edited by Maurice Wiggin and
published in 1965, with a piece entitled
'Fishing For Television'. A nice
black & white photo' of Jack aged about 50 is also included
in this book.
The theme music
to 'Out of Town'/'The Old Country, Recuerdos DeLa Alhambra,
written by Francisco Tarrega
was released by John Williams on an album
(CBS 61843) and as a 45-rpm vinyl single by Juan Martin
(issued as 'Out of Town'). The earliest episodes featured a vocal theme of 'Out
of Town' recorded by Max Bygraves.
Hargreaves was
the much-loved presenter of 'Out of Town' and 'How' for Southern
Television (itself a respected channel).
He was also instrumental in
creating programmes for local viewers such as 'Farm Progress' and
'House Party'.
After the demise of Southern, he later moved to Channel 4 to present 'The Old Country'
in 1985 until he retired.

deleted) Extracts from 'Out of Town'. *Remains highly
collectable.
2004/5 : 'Out Of Town'
Volumes 1-9. Each of these videos contains 3 episodes
from 'Out of Town'.
DVD's
were released during 2004/5 although were not widely
available for copyright reasons until January'06.
*The only reasonably 'scarce' video now is the original 1992, 'An English Country Diary' compilation issued by Telstar on VHS *
