Chairperson’s Report.
Gina said that many club members continue to be interested in the proposed EBU arrangements. The EBU main committee have voted in favour of their proposals and she believed our Club should wait until everything is cast in stone before making decisions regarding our future.
At a recent HIOW meeting a vote for the Chairman was equally divided and the matter was resolved by John Carter casting the deciding vote in his favour over Keith Palmer. A form of African diplomacy.
Attendance on Club nights are steady with roughly 20 tables a week participating.
Gina regretfully announced the death of Gwen Pye, a past member. Several club ladies attended her funeral which was held locally.
Her continued thanks went to the Committee members for maintaining our various activities and particular thanks to our President for his directing and to Jim for the prompt presentation of our results.

Community Centre Representative's Report.
Susan reported that she had heard from the Centre Manageress that some difficulties are occurring as a result of club members arriving in the room as early as 6.30 pm. We only have the room booked from 6.45 pm which is a concession to the Bridge Club of 15 minutes.
Members should note that it is very much in our own interest for individuals not to enter the premises, for what ever reason, before our allotted time.
Any Other Business.
(a) David raised the question of the direction of the “Sit Out Pair” when a sit out is required. The perception is that it is always E/W that suffers. Jim explained that it is for the Director to determine the direction of the “sit out” and over time it should evenly divide between N/S and E/W. However as no records are held of “Sit Out” directions it falls to the Director and his memory to determine the direction on the night. The movement chosen depends upon the number of tables, whether a one winner or two winner movement is required and the need to accommodate a late arrival. The age of our membership means we tend to use movements giving the greatest number of stationary seats.
(b) Bill will be away for a number of weeks from 21st July and volunteers are required to direct in his absence. Please contact Jim with dates you are available if you would like to direct on one or two evenings.
(c)Susan spoke about the annual health and safety review taking place of the premises. Concern was expressed about the hot water urn. Jim said that modern premises use a fixed instantaneous hot water heater usually mounted above a sink. In the Titchfield kitchen next to the bridge room a Heatrae Sadia Supreme 140 would be ideal.
Meeting closed at 6.45 p.m.
Date of next meeting Monday 17th November 2008 at 5.45 p.m.
