Avebury Henge

A henge so large, the Romans didn't realise it was a sacred space, they thought it a natural phenomenon, and it is big enough to have a village built inside it. Here are some of my pictures:

Avebury
The stones, some marker blocks and some of the village.

Stones and marker blocks with the encircling rampart behind.

Avebury stones and ditch
This shows a marker block (concrete posts sited where stones have been robbed out)
and the shallowest ditch.

Avebury ditch
Another part of the ditch and rampart.

Avebury
One of the deepest ditches and highest ramparts.
When new it would have been much deeper and higher
and the rampart would have been gleaming white chalk.

Some of the largest stones.
The figure is my mom who is just about 5 ft.
