Royal Airforce Leuchars Airshow 2004
Not so good on the weather front this year I'm afraid. Arrivals day was Severely Hampered by low cloud and severe fog! Many participants without the luxury of radar and ils landing systems were not able to get in. In fact, one of the GR4's operated by XV squadron from Lossiemoouth provided us with a thrill which helped us forget the cold conditions. Appearing out of the fog a half mile wide of centre and only a quarter mile form threshold!! A go around was expected but no! some superb flying brought the wayward Tornado through a couple of very tight turns and popped it in on the end of the runway.
Another highlight was the arrival of not one but FOUR! Eurofighter Typhoons. Wait forever then four come along at once! Where've we heard that before?
Airshow day was itself hampered by low cloud and very high winds. This pretty much decimated the show but credit where credit is due spaces were filled up by multiple flights by the aircraft that made it in despite the weather. All the way to the end of the day when, as if on que, the final display of the day by a Tornado F3 from the host based 56(R) squadron was blessed with almost cloudless skies and beautiful sunshine
Enjoy the pics!!
