Malmesbury Cottage is a delightful stone built period cottage situated on the outskirts of Wroxall, an “Islander’s village” near Ventnor, Isle of Wight. It has been sympathetically and tastefully restored to a high standard throughout, and includes double glazing and gas central heating for modern day comfort. The accommodation comprises an oak fitted kitchen opening to a large dining/family area with circular dining table and chairs, oak laminate flooring, with a central feature multi-fuel wood burning stove and attractive fireside chairs. The lounge is a separate room and to the front of the cottage with a feature restored cast iron fireplace and flame effect gas fire, comfortable sofa and armchairs, Wide screen TV/DVD/Video player and a CD/radio HiFi system. Upstairs are two double bedrooms, in the master bedroom there is a superb four poster bed, the room is tastefully decorated in cream, The second bedroom contains two full size single beds, also a TV/DVD player. The large bathroom has both a bath and electric shower.
Outside there is off road parking for several cars, a lawned gardens to both the front and rear, and superb countryside views across farmland to St Martins down.
An excellent local pub and restaurant is literally 40 yards away, also close by is the local convenience store
The beaches and coastal paths of Ventnor are 1 1/2 miles away and the resort of Shanklin 3 miles. One of the Islands top attractions Appuldercombe house situated in gardens designed by Capability Brown are only a 20 minute walk away, together with the owl and falconry centre.
Within 200 yards is the Wroxall to Shanklin cycle track which also links from Sandown to Newport the Island capital, as this is a disused railway line, the track is almost flat.
Some of the most beautiful walks on the Island are close by, including a pathway to the top of St Martins down, where stunning panoramic views along the coast to Shanklin, Sandown and beyond can be enjoyed and the cottage is close to both the Worsely trail and the Stenbury trail.
Malmesbury cottage was constructed in 1870 as a railway cottage from Island stone which was excavated from the, now closed, Wroxall to Ventnor railway line tunnel, former cottage occupants include Les Dennis the TV celebrity.
