Dear Browser,

Thank you for finding the Torkington Park Veterinary Centre website. We would like to welcome you and take this opportunity to introduce the staff and services provided for the welfare of your pets.

THE PRACTICE;
There has been a successful veterinary practice here since the 1960's, with the current owners Andrew and Gillian Gray taking over the helm from Pippa Walker in April 2006.Our other full time vet is Nichola Crummack, and we have one part time vet Bob Ruberry. The team of support staff includes two receptionists Abi and Katie (with Kylie on maternity leave), four qualified veterinary nurses Lisa Jackson, Vicki Brownridge,Victoria Gajewski and Pam Buckley (Vicky and Pam part time), and Diane Robinson our practice manager.Torkington Park Veterinary Centre is a veterinary nurse training practice, and is accredited with tier 2 of the RCVS Practice standards scheme. As such, we are required to meet very high standards, which is reflected in the quality of care given. As pet owners ourselves, we appreciate the need for this to be carried out in a friendly, caring and compassionate manner.

FACILITIES;
We take pride in the fact that we are able to perform most procedures here at the surgery. To be able to do this the practice owns an array of excellent equipment including: - new x-ray facilities, ultrasound machine, mini endoscope, up to date dentistry equipment, on site laboratory, modern operating theatre and a variety of warm, cosy kennelling areas designed to provide your pet with a safe, comfortable stay.

NURSE CLINICS;
Complementing our veterinary consultations, our nursing staff are happy to provide information and help with such topics as worming and flea treatments, nutrition and weight control, microchip implantation, dental care, socialisation of puppies and kittens, neutering, nail trimming, grooming and care of the older pet. Many of these are free of charge.

INSURANCE;
Pet insurance is increasingly important in reducing worry about any compromises on veterinary care. We do feel it is an important consideration since advances in diagnostic and surgical techniques and treatments available are leading to increasing costs, particularly when referrals to specialists are required. Our Pet Insurance Advisers, Abi and Katie are happy to discuss pet insurance and help you find a policy that suits your needs.

HOME VISITS;
Whilst the practice can arrange home visits, we feel that in most cases it is in the animal's best interests to attend the surgery. We have found from experience that we can carry out a more thorough examination at the surgery and many pets are less stressed here, rather than having 'their territory' invaded at home.
If you have difficulty with transport, handling your pet or are worried that your pet is too sick to move please telephone the surgery for advice.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS;
If requesting repeat medications from the surgery, we would ask for at least 24 hours notice wherever possible. This enables us to ensure that we have your pet's medicines available and reduces the risk of you running out.
In order to comply with strict dispensing laws, we must examine your pet every 6 months when on regular medication. Also where a licensed veterinary product has become available we must use this version despite any cost implications. We do provide this check at a reduced consultation rate, and in the case of flea and worming preparations, we provide a free nurse consultation.

FEES;
Veterinary practices are governed by specific regulations on dispensing for animals, but we always aim to provide the best, most effective drugs available. We also have the use of our own modern, up to date equipment, and regularly attend training courses, but as you can appreciate all this comes at a cost.
We ask that all fees are paid at the time of treatment and accept all forms of payment including most credit cards. We are also able to take payment over the telephone if you wish to pre-pay for items ordered.
We are happy to discuss estimated costs for any treatments and services.
