Tubslake
Shooting
Club
Tubslake Shooting Club was formed
in the early 1990's by the former members of Cranbrook, Frittenden and
Hawkhurst Rifle Clubs who had lost their rented ranges.
They were also joined by the members of Rolvenden Rifle Club who had
suffered the same fate with their range.
The club was very generously given a piece of land by the late Mr John
Notman on which the club building now stands. After a number of
planning issues, difficulties with the lie of the land
and the proximity of tree roots which threatened to undermine the
footings, building commenced with the help of a substantial lottery
grant from Sport England and fund raising by members
of all the founder clubs. The range building was completed in the
Autumn of 2001 and formally opened on Saturday May 18th, 2002 by the GB
Modern Pentathlete and multiple gold medal winner
Georgina Harland who was accompanied by representatives from Sport
England.
The committee of the club is keen to promote target shooting for all
groups and was pleased to be able to include a facility for the blind
who are able to shoot using specially adapted air rifles.
The scopes on these rifles respond to special targets and produce a
sound through headphones which increases in pitch as the rifle is
pointed closer to the centre of the target. This may sound easy
but is much harder than it looks (see the page dedicated to this
subject).
