ABOUT US The Trafford Stadium was built in 1964 and a yare later a group of local enthusiasts formed the now internationally famous Trafford Athletic Club previously known as Stretford Harriers.During its relatively short life the club has become one of the most powerful and respected in the land and has produced many international athletes Christine Bell paved the way in 1969 when she won bronze in the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh and was the clubs first UK record holder. She has been followed by many others including such names as Sharon Colyear, Paula Dunn-Thomas, Donna Hartley, Shirley Strong, Christine Benning, Jane Parry, Andy Carter and Barrie Williams. More than 50 members of the club have represented their country in Olympic, European, World, Commonwealth Games or International Teams in Track and Field and Cross Country. most of Trafford's stars joined the club while still at school and are products of the clubs coaching system. All age groups are catered for and coaching and competition is proved at all levels throughout the year. The Women's section of the club has been dominant in British Athletics over the last 25 years. They have been constant members of the UK Women's League and have competed in the National Jubilee Cup Finals more times than any other Club and have been winners a record EIGHT times. The Club has represented the UK in three European Clubs Championships - twice finishing 2nd. The Men's section has been the UK's most progressive in the last ten years and now compete the higher levels of the British league. Facts and Figures
