Owned and operated by West of Scotland Water, the steamer has always had unusual ownership. Lock Katrine became the principal source of water supplies for Scotland's largest city Glasgow and the Glasgow Corporation were owners of the lake and vessel for many years after takingher over from the Loch Katrine Steamboat Company in 1953. She has remained coal or solid-fuel burning. A change to oil was regarded as a potential risk to the purity of the water in the lake which of course would affect the supply of clean water to Glasgow. Smokeless coal now ensures she does not pollute the air in the beautiful Trossachs area which has now, along with nearby Loch Lomond, been designated a National Park.
