Every summer we leave the studio and record the 'Talking Magazine' on location. The idea behind these special editions is to bring back fond memories to our listeners, or 'take them', through the medium of sound, to places many can no longer visit. Others have told us that they've decided to visit the place themselves after hearing about it on the Magazine. Above all we want to entertain and inform our listeners, many of whom are housebound.
Our volunteers also enjoy a break from the studio!!!
The complete programme is dedicated to the place we visit. We chat to local people, visitors and experts to learn about it's history, background and attractions. We've now featured 31 summer locations within South Wales and further afield. Among the towns we have visited are Aberystwyth, Carmarthen, Brecon, Swansea Marina, Gloucester, Bath and Cheddar Gorge. Other locations have included the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Butlins in Barry and the Ebbw Vale Garden Festival. As the last two venues no longer exist our archive recordings have become treasured memories.
The 2008 Summer Special was recorded in the Forest of Dean
(the very first in stereo for our CD listeners!)
