grading of the walksGRADING OF WALKS Degree of Difficulty The new Group Walks Finder Grading System is shown as below.The old grading system (0, C, B, A & AA) is shown adjacent to the new for comparison. There is a need to change the grading system if we are to include walks on the web, see www.ramblers.org.uk. EA Easy access. Walks for everyone, which would include those people with conventional wheelchairs and pushchairs. Comfortable shoes or trainers are safe to wear. It may be difficult to push wheelchairs on some sections: please enquire. E (D) Easy. Walks for everyone who does not have a mobility difficulty or a specific health problem or is seriously unfit. Suitable for pushchairs that can be lifted over occasional obstructions. Comfortable shoes or trainers are safe to wear. L (C) Leisurely. Walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. May include unsurfaced rural paths. Walking boots and Warm, waterproof clothing are recommended. M (8) Moderate. Walks for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness. May include some steep paths and open country. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential. s (A) Strenuous. Walks for experienced country walkers with an above average fitness level. May include hills and rough country. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential. People in doubt about their fitness are advised to contact the organiser or leader in advance. T (AA) Technical. Walks for experienced and very fit walkers with additional technical skills. May require scrambling. If you are in doubt concerning specialist equipment, contact the leader. It should be noted that all walks with the exception of Grade T (AA) should be taken at a maximum pace of two miles an hour or at the pace of the slowest walker, whichever the lower. If in doubt about any of the walks please contact the walk leader before starting out. |
