Walkers wanted for The Land’s End TrailThe Lands End Trail, from Land's End to Avebury (Wilts), was conceived by Hugh Miners in 1984 and developed by ramblers Robert Wicks, Robert Preston and Robin Menneer in the 1990s. During 2009 Robert and Oliver Howes, have re-walked it, checking and revising. The LET is an inland route, using high ground where possible, complementing and relieving the over-used South-West Coast Path. It crosses Bodmin Moor, Dartmoor, Exmoor, the Polden Hills and Salisbury Plain. Eventually it should form part of the long-awaited End-to-End path.
The Cornish Section of the LET - Land's End to Tavistock - is complete and is on the web. Robert Preston re-walked Tavistock to Avebury in April 2009, raising funds for Truro Cathedral Central Tower Appeal. His 13 day trek raised over 4000 pounds. As at October 2009 the Tavistock to Avebury Section is on the web as far as Dulverton. The Group hopes to complete this by the end of 2009. There will also be an east-to-west route description from Avebury to Lands End.
Included in the LET web pages is an Accommodation page. Unfortunately, none of the LET Group are backpackers these days so they are deficient in one major area of research, sites for camping. They would love to hear from a serious backpacker who would like to help, seeking out not only camp sites but also farms (or similar) along the way, where a backpacker might pitch a tent for the night, have the use of toilet facilities and maybe get a hot breakfast. Would anyone who would like to help with this please get in touch with Oliver Howes.
