The spiders made for us by tony at www.knightsteel.co.uk are mounted to the wheel arch and
Headlamp fairing
The spider for our trailer takes shape, its made from a baby cot mattress foam. It will be fitted
A motor to move it, and strobe LEDS to light the eyes. The LED strobes are fitted with resistors to
Allow use with 12 volts, instead of button cells
Legs are offered up , ready for
assembly
Strobe led for eyes lay on top
Legs are glued
LED strobes are fitted in to holes
Eyeballs are fitted over
LED strobe, before modding
For 12 volt use
Wires are passed through
foam to underside
Toni & The Kids get messy .... 18 tubes of silicone later, He’s looking great.
Wouldn’t be room for this in the bath!!
The Vibration sensor mounted into his right leg cant drive the motor
By its self, so a relay is used. The sensor switches 12v to the relay,
The relay switches 12v to the motor. A diode & Capacitor is fitted
across the relay coil to reduce contact chatter
The switch shown will switch 12v to the relay
To `home` the spider back to its Resting position.
As the switch is pushed in ( its being mounted on
The underside of the spider) the 12v suspply is cut
A 24 volt wiper motor is used to move the spider. I decided to use a 24 volt motor because a 12 volt motor rotates too quickly. Running a 24v motor on 12v halfs its rotation speed. Holes can be seen for switch mounts and for electrics installation
