Wales 2010

Once again Pam invited us to join her on a trip to her cottage in Pembrokeshire. We had a good run down, although it was wet in places - however, it cleared up when we arrived.

As usual each day we had a leisurely start, usually arriving at our destination at about midday. The first day we went to Fishguard, starting with the "cheepo" shop near the car park. We had a good rummage there and came away with the some useful things. Then we went to our usual cafe and had a light lunch, went to the chemist and I went into a shop where I hoped to get a reasonably priced pair of blue jeans - unfortunately they didn't have anything like I wanted. We came back to Square & Compass and then went down to Aberiddy beach. There were still quite a lot of people there enjoying the beach and the water.

On the Wednesday we went to St. Davids. As usual had a super icecream at the chocolate & icecream shop near the centre. Then we went down to the cathedral and had lunch in the refrectory - something we do most years. This was followed by a wander round the shops, before we set off for Solva. The ladies dissapeared into Window on Wales and I walked up to the harbour. We took a different route back from Solva down some very narrow roads which even Pam did't know - there were some nice houses and one particularly attractive garden.

On Thursday we set off for Newport, making a brief stop in Fishguard on the way. As usual we arrived about lunchtime and we found a cafe where we could sit outside to have our lunch. We had a look at the shops and as we went back to the car park it started to rain. Pam took us to another small beach on the way back and by that time the rain had stopped. In the evening we went to the chip shop in Letterston for supper.

We returned on Friday but on the way we stopped at the Botanic Garden of Wales, which we hadn't been to since the year after it had opened. A huge amount had been done since then. There was a cafe inside the dome and so we had a coffee there. There were lots of cheeky sparrows and robins looking to grab what they could from the tables! We really enjoyed looking round the plants in the dome, and then we went round by the walled garden - which hadn't existed the last time we had been there. The rest of the journey was uneventful and we arrived home after a very pleasant and relaxing few days.
