![]() | Paul Dengate :: Guitar As well as playing guitar in bands covering many styles ranging through blues, country, rock and punk, a brief stint as a DJ in the 1970’s, and an appearance wearing tights (and playing lute) in a production of The Merchant of Venice, Paul Dengate has always been involved in the Hastings folk scene. He was a regular performer at the famous Black Horse Folk Club, managed the Mariners and recorded both them and the Telham Tinkers, and was a founder member of both Mad Jacks Morris and the Catsfield Steamers barn dance band. While guitarist with the folk-rock band, Better Days, he toured the UK in support of Steeleye Span and appeared at the Hong Kong Festival. He has been heard and seen on radio and television, and even on the national ITV news! As a sound engineer, Paul recorded a critically acclaimed CD by Barry Dransfield, and set up his own record label, PDCS, releasing CDs by Garry Blakeley, Band of Two and others. He was for many years a sound engineer at the Black Horse Music Festival and, during his long period on the organising committee of the festival, took a special interest in the folk and world music days. He has been the sound engineer of choice for many folk and world music events held locally. These days, Paul can often be seen playing in traditional folk sessions in the area, with occasional appearances at festivals, is playing once again with the ever-lasting Catsfield Steamers and plays in a duo with flautist Jo Barnes. |
