Hints for a successful Party
(4-10 year olds)
Liaise
with other classmate parents
Before you book the party check to see if any other classmates have birthdays around the same time. If there’s a clash with another party playground politics can be ugly. Consider a joint party with another classmate. Financially it works out cheaper because you can halve the cost, and more of the children will be able to come. The best parties are definitely where the children are all of similar age. A good entertainer will advise you on what they offer for that age group.
If
It’s a Disco Party
Book an entertainer who provides more than one person (If 15 or more children) This will give the best attention to the children as one entertainer can work alongside the children whilst the other can operate the disco.
Book
well in advance
Good
Discos get booked up quick. Try to organize
a function at least 10 weeks prior to the party. Tip:
If you do leave it late, don’t worry sometimes the good entertainers
get cancellations, They can also recommend other well established entertainers.
The
Times
Entertainers can usually recommend a good time for your party.
For the younger children 4-7 lunchtime parties are the best 12-2pm. Most
of the children have been up since six and are often too tired in the late
afternoon.
The
older children are fine with the lunchtime spots as well as 3-5pm. If they are
aged 10 and above the evening spot 6.30pm or later works well as it makes them
feel grown up and during the winter months is a lot darker.
Confirmation
An
entertainer will provide confirmation in writing or by email if you require it.
Remember to check all the details with them. I.e. Time, Venue, Date.
Be
Accessible
The
Entertainer is there to entertain, Not
to take sole responsibility of the children. We recommend that you have at least
1 adult per ten children available if they are little.
This is to accompany them to the toilet, Do up shoelaces, Put hair bands
back on etc; You would be amazed how many children ask the entertainer to do
this when they are dancing.
Older
children should also be supervised in order that the party runs smoothly.
The
Food
If
you are providing food, have a organized break-time. A good entertainer will
suggest a suitable time. Leaving
children help themselves often disrupts the others and often disorganizes the
whole structure of the entertainment.
Prizes
Don’t
worry about providing prizes for the competitions.
A good entertainer will usually provide prizes.
If you are inviting more then 20 children and wish for them all to
receive a prize, buy some sweets to cover the amount.
The entertainer can give these out for you if you require.
Name
Badges
An
excellent idea! Younger children feel very comfortable if the entertainer knows
their name.
Seating
Younger
children don’t need chairs if you haven’t got enough.
They are quite happy to seat on the floor.
Food
boxes are a good idea (Twisters can provide empty party boxes for a small
charge) Carton drinks are a good idea rather than cups, as you avoid spillages.
The
Birthday cake
Organize
prior to the party whether you wish for the children to eat the birthday cake at
the party or take some home in the party bags.
Let the entertainer know what you have decided so they can organize the
structure of the party around this.
Relax
Don’t
worry too much about your little ‘angels’ A good entertainer will keep them
amused. Have a glass of wine with
your friends and enjoy the day. If
you have a lot a parents stay. Try to stay in an adjacent room, as parents
watching can sometimes distract children.
And
finally relax and enjoy the party !
