Disability Awareness / Equality Training Seminars for staff

Since the passing of Statutory Instrument 2003 No.1673 of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 Amendment Regulations 2003, Section 18B(2) in regulation 17(2), together with the abolition of the ‘below 15 employee exemption’ (see web page entitled “
Relationship between Employers and Employees under the DDA), it is now a legal requirement for businesses of
all sizes
to instigate reasonably regular staff training on disability awareness issues.

Thus, all governmental agencies including the Courts whose responsibility
is to enforce the Disability Discrimination Act including Part III in 2004
are now stressing the importance of regular and sufficient training of staff
on all disability issues, such that under the Act this has now become a
key feature expected of employers under the DDA.

The UK Disability Bureau therefore provides such legally required training
for all businesses and organisations, enabling staff to explore their attitudes towards the concept of disability, inform them as to the many types of disability they could be presented with in the course of their normal work, plus
typical adjustments to their work practice and environments required under Statute.

Such training can either take the form of an on-site seminar conducted
by appropriately qualified external consultants such as the
UK Disability Bureau ,
or be provided in the form of an in-house manual (such as that published
and made separately available by the
Bureau) which staff can be required
to consult on a regular basis.
