Coloured Old American Sports Photos
Hopefully you will have seen the previous page looking at old football photos that I have colourised. If not you can find it by pressing this link
But I don't just do football photos - I have done some family pictures, and recently have tried my hand at some American sports, mainly in response to challenges thrown out by an excellent American website which deals with sports uniforms ("kit" in English!") - called Uniwatching. Here are some of my efforts - they're mostly baseball.
This photo shows a Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher, Art Herring, around about 1944. A few night games under lights led to a brief dalliance with satin uniforms.
I'm not too sure whether or not I like the baby blue though. They did have a darker blue version, but I'm pretty sure this is the "Man City version".
I really like this photo. It's a guy called Bob Feller and dates back to around 1938. He was with the Cleveland Indians, was described as "the greatest pitcher of the greatest generation",
and the clarity of the picture made it a colourising dream. He died at the end of 2010.
On to 1961 and Boog Powell of the Rochester Red Wings. I'm quite pleased with my efforts on this - particularly the crowd behind Boog.
"Now this is a beautiful picture in full size. It's a glass plate photograph (in original 7x5) dating back to 21 July 1913, and is of two Chicago Cubs' stars of the era, Al Bridwell and Jimmy Archer.
Keeping with the Chicago Cubs this is a portion of a great panoramic shot of the 1917 squad.
I would really have liked to have a go at the entire panorama, but didn't have time. Maybe one day.
Now on to Boston and Hank Gowdy of the Boston Braves in a photo dated 13 October 1914, the final game of the World Series.
People who know about these things point out that the Series was held at Fenway Park although this seems to be at the Polo Grounds,
and for my two-penn'orth the fact that Boston are in a coloured (ie second) kit lends weight to this - but then what do we know :)
A change of sport now, and gridiron football appears. This photo is a member of the
undefeated 1925 USC Trojans, by the name of Marion Morrison.
He achieved far greater fame in later years under his stage name - John Wayne.

And another change of sport to ice hockey. Here we have Mike Nykoluk of the Rochester Americans in 1956-1957 season.
He went on to play a few games for the Toronto Maple Leafs that season but never made it big in the NHL and
returned to Rochester for one season before moving on to the Herhsey Bears.

Sometimes things just slot together really well.
A good quality photo, interesting content, a good background. This is just such a picture.
It's a football game in 1924 between Marines (in the cardinal) and Army.
I really enjoyed doing this one, and I have to say I am pleased with the result.
