Location Profile:
FORD (West Sussex) |

 |
Ford in West Sussex is famous for two things. One of them is
the former RAF Air Station which does not feature in the series, the other is the infamous
Open Prison which does but you are not allowed to take pictures of unless you wish to wind
up becoming an inmate! |
| Fortunately, two key scenes do take place at the main line railway
station here, which apart from losing its bay platform and goods yard in the early 1970's
is little changed from when it was 'Ford for Arundel' and located at the end of a toll
road to the latter back in the 1850's. |
 |
 |
Indeed apart from the Gaugemaster/The Engine Shed model railway shop right outside the up
platform exit, there is very little here. However a key event
does take place right here with a well known character observing from The Engine Shed's
front window! |
| Both times that Ford appears in the series, characters are first
seen arriving on a train from London which will have come down from Victoria via Horsham
and the Arun Valley bound for Bognor Regis and Portsmouth Harbour and formed like this one
of Class 377 'Electrostar' stock of Southern. |
 |
 |
Ford has an hourly nearly all stops service in either direction
between Portsmouth Harbour and Brighton, hourly services between London Victoria and
Portsmouth Harbour/Bognor Regis as well as the Littlehampton to Bognor Regis shuttle
service. All services from the station are operated by Southern |
