Location Profile:
CHARING CROSS |

 |
Served much like Embankment by the Bakerloo (seen right) and
Northern Line's, indeed the distance between the two stations is one of the shortest on
the Underground system. |
 |
| It is one of the oddities on the Underground system.
Not only does it have the closed Jubilee Line platforms but also by the time you
have walked through the station complex down to either tube line, waited for a train,
boarded, alighted at Embankment and then made your way back up though the station complex
to the surface, it is three times quicker (not to mention cheaper!) to walk overland! |
 |
 |
| The main line station is a pretty impressive structure
with the hotel above the main entrance (left) a picture that also features that now rare
thing, a Routemaster bus in service. The light and airy
concourse (right) is one of the smallest of the mainline stations but is often busy,
particularly as the station is somewhat of a commuter location. |
