Location Profile:
HAINAULT |

It's taken fifteen
years and ten novels to finally get here but in 'Epping' we finally reach
Hainault Station, the name of the original novel in the series.
 |
Like most stations on the London Underground these
days, they have got the builders in as seen here in this shot of the
station's rather modest exterior. It is located
on the west side of the Hainault Loop with the depot for this part of the
Central Line immediately to the north of the station (On the left as we look
here). |
| At platform level, the Central Line is able to call
at three platforms. Some services from the
centre of London terminate here (for the adjacent depot) whilst others
continue northwards around the loop to Woodford.
This is platform 2 with the Central Line diagram on
the right showing the blanking plate covering the now long closed Epping to
Ongar section. |

Despite the builders being in on the occasion of my
visit, a number of original features such as the cast concrete lamps and
sign panels remain in situ. The location is
visited in 'Epping' by Tracy who takes an empty stock train north of here
towards Grange Hill. |
