Location Profile:
PICCADILLY CIRCUS |

Piccadilly Circus needs little introduction being
famous the world over for Eros, illuminated advertisements and traffic jams.....
 |
The centre of Piccadilly is well known for being dominated by the
famous statue of Eros although getting anywhere near it with the constant
throng of
tourists can be a bit of a problem. |
| The well known illuminate advertisements dominate the upper levels
of the buildings on one corner, again a bit tricky to photograph given the awful traffic
in the immediate area. |
 |
 |
The surface station building at Piccadilly Circus was demolished
long ago, instead familiar wrought iron railings guard subway entrances to the lower
levels at key points around the Circus. |
| The ornate booking hall below street level is a
marvellous example
of Art Deco and won awards when it was first built. Sadly the bizarre fashion of
selected missing ceiling panels in Underground Stations seems to have struck here as well. |
 |
Piccadilly Circus is served by the Piccadilly and Bakerloo lines.
An unusual feature of the Bakerloo Lines here is that there is a crossover between
the northbound and southbound lines which intrudes into the platform tunnel area which
means you can watch tube trains arriving and departing on the other platform. |
| Piccadilly Circus northbound Bakerloo Platform with its mixture of
green and cream tile work and horrible brown line colour plastic box cant
rail signs. |
