| Another busy station and location on the Jubilee Line
is Westminster, the stop between Green Park and Waterloo and also the interchange for the
District & Circle Lines. The most impressive feature of
the station is the huge escalator hall which rises from the deep level of the Jubilee Line
platforms to the surface. |
| On the right is seen the sub-surface platforms that serve the
District and Circle Lines which were extensively rebuilt as part of the Jubilee Line
extension project. |
 |
 |
Visitors to Westminster (and there are many thanks to this being a
major tourist trap for the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey) would be
forgiven for missing the main entrance to the station. It is
hidden as shown left, in the bottom of the parliamentary office building called
Portcullis
House. |
 |
Three well known landmarks in one shot. From left to right,
Portcullis House, The London Eye and Big Ben with the Houses of Parliament. This shot is the view from Parliament Square which in Waterloo, plays host
to a major incident (which in real life is nothing unusual!) |
 |
 |
| The station and surrounding area also gives its name
to the fifth novel in the series. Left is another view of Portcullis House, this time
from the Victoria Embankment side. |
 |
 |
| The impressive escalator hall that was built to serve
the new Jubilee Line platforms and connect them not only with the surface but also the
existing sub-surface District/Circle Line platforms is one of a number of impressive
architectural gems that can be found on the stations of the Jubilee Line Extension. |

SECURITY NOTE!!
Please be aware that due to the potential terrorist threat and the high profile
nature of the Westminster area, if you are planning to visit the area, be careful.
Whilst photography outside is welcome, taking pictures of for example the interior of the
station and any security provision around Parliament Square is frowned upon.
However do not be afraid of the Police that you will encounter, they are actually a very
friendly and helpful bunch! |
