Become a Friend of the Vale
Also known as Wilkes Wood. This is a woodland planted in 1986 with native species, with a hedge of mainly native species. The soil is Evesham series, calcareous clays. Primroses and ferns are growing (2007), and there is a thicket of blackthorn (important because of the Brown Hairstreak butterfly, which has already got to Bishampton.)

There are grass areas / glades within the wood. The management of Ian’s Wood will be very minimal, but will include tidying the path around it, and clearing a third of the blackthorn thicket each year.

Given to VLHT by Lionel and Margaret Wilkes in 2006/7.
