Chester YMCA chess club
The club meetings are every Tuesday from 7.30 pm in the Town Crier (opposite Chester railway station).
Players of all levels are welcome!

The current overall membership fee is £35 which pays for league fees, BCF game fees and membership to the YMCA.
The club was founded in 1919 and, as the name suggests, it is part of YMCA Chester.
News
- March 30th, 2004: 1st team beat Wrexham decisively and is almost certain now to win the Chester and District League
Ard van Bergen's game against Richard Dinely was particularly impressive!
- 15-16 November 2003: Graham Bromley wins Chester and District League individual championship with a perfect score: 4 out of 4 games! Joe Nemcek claims second place with 3 out of 4.
- October 1st, 2003: Schedule for club championship released
- 12-14 September 2003: Steve Lloyd came joint first in his section at Leek Congress with 4/5. No other Chester YMCA players took part.
- August 5th, 2003: Chester and District League fixtures released:
- New team Chester YMCA 3 will take on Ruthin home om 9th September
- July 23rd, 2003: Wirral League Annual General Meeting - Items of Interest:
- Steve Lloyd was awarded 'Division 2 Player of the Year' for season 2002/03
- In the cup, Chester YMCA were given a tough draw, away to Wallasey for the opening round
- 27-29 June 2003: Chris Doran wins Manchester Chess Federation Summer Congress
- June 3rd, 2003: Annual General Meeting - Items of Interest:
- Chester YMCA would enter a 3rd team into the Chester and District League for the up and coming season with John Vernon as captain
- Alan Mealing will take over the captaincy of Wirral League team, Chester 2
- Tony Roberts and Steve Lloyd were awarded the Hallard and Coleby cups respectively. Graham Bromley and
Ard van Bergen would play off for the YMCA Club Championship
- The Hallard cup will now be run from September till May. The Coleby cup is now the summer tournament, and open to all
- Membership fees would remain at £35 a year.
- Graham Bromley will open a new junior chess club in the autumn, and will look for members through schools
- June 1st, 2003: Graham Bromley makes his mark at Frodsham Rapidplay
- 7-9 February 2003: Steve Lloyd wins Minor section in Crewe Congress. Other participants from Chester YMCA: Chris Doran and Graham Bromley (Major), John Sutcliffe and Joe Nemcek (Intermediate).
External competitions
Teams have been entered into both the Chester & District League and the Wirral League competitions.

In 2000 both the first and the second team won their division in the Chester & District League and were obviously quite keen to have their photograph published in the local press!
