Weymouth & Melcomb Regis. 11 November 1396 Documents found in an old stable. "At the next court on Tuesday after the feast of St. Martin the Bishop. 11 November in the 20th year of the King Richard the Second. The Bailiffs present that JOHN SWAN drew blood with his hand from Thomas Deigher against the peace, therefore he is amerced. The accused who failed to appear is 'attached' by his goods such as horses, cows or swine being siezed." Fifth report of the Royal Commision on Historical Documents.

At the law court of 'Hokke Term' holden on the 15 May 1397 in the 20th year of the King Richard the Second. "Twelve free men being sworn, present that JOHN SWAN broke the arrest of Thomas Cole the mayor of this vill. and the under bailiff, as to two leaden measured 'cuves' or vessels and other goods to the value of 40 shillings. Arrested in the house of Walter Clayton at the suit of the party complaining against him in a plea of debt. Such complainant being John Shudde. This latter person himself being also presented for placing dung in a vacant place opposite the chapel of Melcombe Regis to the grievious danger of the common people walking there."
