The Last Will & Testament of Robert Swan (Yeoman). C1505-1595

In the name of God Amen. The sixteenth day of February in the year of our Lord God 1595. I Robert Swanne of Ickleton in the County of Cambridge yeoman being whole in mind & perfect in body thankes be to Almighty God do make and ordaine this my last will and testament in the manner and forme following that is to say ffirst I commend my soule to Almighty God my creator and to Jhesus Christ my redeemmer and to the Holy Ghost my sanctifier and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Ickleton aforesaid Imprimis I will and bequeath unto the poor people of the town of Ickleton aforesaid ten shillings. Item, I will and bequeath to my son Stephen five roodes of land sometimes Whitbys belonging to the manor of Calderres whereof halfe an acre by others and three roodes lyeth about Coplow (illegible). Item, I will and bequeath unto my son Stephen the bed standing in the chamber (illegible) sonne lyeth. Item, I will and bequeath unto John my son halfe an acre and halfe a roode of land belonging to the manor of the Abbey, whereof one roode of land lyeth in Coplowe (shotte) and one roode and a halfe within south field and butteth upon the short butts. Item, I will and bequeath unto John and Edward my sons the lease of my mannor of "Hovelles" during the term of my years, as it is now equally to be desposed betwixt them. Item, I will and bequeath unto my son Edward the bed (illegible) and the great brass pot and the Q (illegible) and the table in the hall with the painted clothes and hangings therein. Item, I will and bequeath unto Margaret my daughter forty shillings to be paid unto her within one month after my decease by mine executors. The rest of all my movable goods not willed or bequeathed I will they be divided equally between my four sons, Stephen, John, William and Edward so that they do discharge all my debts and bring my body decently to the ground. And of this my last will and testament I will that my son Edward shall be my sole executor utterly revoking all former wills gifts and bequests and thereto have my hand the day and year first above written these being witnesses.
