JOAN SWAN Wife of WILLIAM SWAN

In the name of God Amen, the 4th day of January Anno Domini 1620. JOAN SWAN of Ashdon in the County of Essex Widow the unprofitable servant of God. Being tired of body but of sound mind and perfect memory thanks be unto God. I do make contribute and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. That is to favour first and most primarily I commend my sole into the hands of God Almighty my maker, trusting most fervently in by and through the death and bitter passion of God's son my saviour Jesus Christ to give full pardon even his remission of all my sins and offences and my body to the waste from which it first came. And also concerning all my worldly goods, which you have made me steward of here in this world and vale of misery, this is my mind Will and devisor. First I give and bequeath to ROBERT Swan my oldest son, Ten Pounds to be paid unto him within one whole year of my decease. Or if the said ROBERT shall no longer be living to be equally divided amongst the children of the said ROBERT. Then I give and bequeath unto THOMAS SWAN my younger son Five Pounds. Also I give and bequeath unto ANN my daughter the wife of WILLIAM QUOY? Five Pounds to be paid unto her within one whole year of my decease, or if she is no longer living to be equally divided amongst the children of the said ANN . Then I give and bequeath unto MARY my daughter the wife of RICHARD DORSLEY? Five Pounds to be paid unto her within two years after my decease, or if she is no longer living to be equally divided amongst the children of the said MARY. Then I give and bequeath unto MARTHA SWAN my younger daughter Ten Pounds to be paid unto her within three years next after my decease. Then I give unto the said MARTHA all my moveable goods Bedd and Bedding in the chamber over the hall except the most feather Bedd and Bedding belonging thereto. Also I give her half of the contents of the Buttery, a great Brasspot, an Iron dripping pan, a great Cheese dish a great Brass ??? a great table in the hall and the Best Bullock in the yards. Then I give and bequeath all my Best Apparel as well linen and woollen to be equally divided among my three daughters ANN, MARY and MARTHA. Then I give unto my maid ALICE Rogers? All my mostly Day Apparel as well linen and woollen.
