In the Name of God, Amen

II Robert Swan of Hadstock in the County of Essex Carpenter being in a bad state of health but of a sound mind and memory and understanding, Praise be to God, do make publish and declare this my last will and testament in the manner following, that is to say I give and bequeath unto Mary my loving wife all that my coppyhold messuage or tenement wherein I now dwell with the barns, outhouses, orchards, yards and liberties to the same belonging and also all the rest and residue of my inclosed and commonfield land lying disspersedly in ye parish of Hadfield aforesaid and also all other my coppyhold messuage lands, tenements, heriditrents whatsoever and wheresoever whereof or wherein I have any right or power.

To have and to hold the same messuages lands tenements hereditrents premises aforesaid with their and every of their respective rights and appurtances unto the said Mary my wife her heirs and assigns for ever and also I give unto Mary my wife all my household goods bed and bedding stock in trade ready moneys sheep cows hogs and all my other goods and chattles, whatsoever and wheresoever and lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said Mary to be sole execturix of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto setting hand and seal this 18th day of May One thousand seven hundred and fourty and eight.

The mark of Robert Swann signed sealed published and declared by the said Robert Swann as his last will and testament in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence of/ and at the request of him the said testator:
Robt. Spencer, Robert Hawes and Robt. Frances.


Proved the twenty fifth day of October in the year of our Lord One thousand and seven hundred and forty eight before the Reverend John Grant, Clerk, Master of Arts lawful surrogate of the Reverend Thomas Cartwright, doctor of divinity, Archdeacon of the Arch deaconary of Colchester. Lawfully appointed By Oath of Mary Swann widow the relict of the deceased and sole execrutrix. To whom ad inrow was granted. She being first sworn duly to administer.
