On a very windy day about 14 members of the History Society visited the site of the bone cave at Banwell.  Although closed for many years this had been discovered in 1824 and was found to contain the bones of many animals that had been washed in during the Pleistocene Period.  At the time they were thought to be evidence of Noah's flood.

Some rather tired members of the village were about early to set up the annual plant sale this morning.  The flags were still up from the previous day and added to this event.  Once again a successful day was achieved.

Friday

In common with many places throughout the country many Beercrocombe residents enjoyed a party to celebrate the Royal Wedding  on this day.  Mugs were presented to those of school age while the more senior enjoyed the toast to the happy couple and tea in the churchyard.

(Boxing Day)

Following the coldest night for many years in Beercrocombe the Mummers came to visit us to perform.  Many villagers and visitors turned up to watch a traditional performance featuring the death and rebirth of St George representing the summer.  The serving of mulled wine helped us to cope with the sub-zero temperatures.

The 'clear-up' day at St James was dry and this encouraged about 16 members of the village to come and work in the Church and Churchyard to smarten things up and to maintain the fabric.  The picture shows just some of those who helped.

Sunday

5 September

2010

This Sunday was the day of our Harvest Festival service at St James' Church.  A good congregation was present to hear from Roger Godin and guest speaker Rob Walrond.  The service was followed by a Harvest Lunch held in the grounds of The Old Rectory.

August

Having decided to buy its red telephone box the 'Friends of the Telephone box' set about its renovation this August.  It is to be used as a book changing centre.

Tuesday

Despite the rain villagers and Morris Men turned up for the annual visit of the Taunton Deane Morris Men.  Spot the odd man out.  One dancer from Kent had packed his costume before visiting Somerset and joined the team.

Saturday

17 July

2010

As usual the combined Curry Mallet & Beercrocombe Annual Village Fete was blessed with good weather and a very high turn- out of  visitors.  One of the highlights of the afternoon was the ukulele band.

The History Society's second visit this year was to the site of the last battle on English soil.  This was the battle of Sedgemoor near Weston Zoyland and proved to be very interesting.  The course of the battle was very well explained by Malcolm Hayes.  We also visited the Sedgemoor Inn before and afterwards.
