A Trip To Beggars Belief

I had a hired van & I intended to make the most use of it. So, in the midst of taking some shit to the tip Tuesday I decided to have a little time out & just kept on rolling. Turning right instead of left coming from the tip I opened up the diesel engine & cranked it up into fifth gear heading towards the Two Mills turn off to Queensferry ………. and beyond.

There were road works along the A55 and the traffic slowed to a crawl for an hour. Eventually the road began to clear & I managed to hit fourth gear again. They had all been going on about the weather & how we would be battered by 70mph winds with rain thrown in on the news. Two of the V.L.C. cried off in fear, 'I'm not goin' out there in that sort of weather', when I rang to ask if they'd like to come for the ride. The day was clear as a bell.

Around 12:30pm I finally arrived in Rhyl. I found somewhere to park the van by chance. A big car park next to the train station. I had no idea how close or distant I might be to my intended destination so began to amble my way along to where there seemed to be some signs of 'mainstreet' life. The first shop I passed was a genuine Gunsmith's !

Making my way along mainstreet I was surprised by the amount of fish & chip shops there were. Far more chip shops than pubs, I counted at least six within 200 yards of each other. One of them looked like it had once been a pub. I saw a Newsagents & called in to ask directions to Water Street expecting the lady behind the counter to tell me I'd have to cross town & walk seven miles, "Just keep going up the street and turn first left.". Nice one ! Viper's radar tracking instinct is shit hot.

Five minutes later I found the pastel green shades of No.47 Water Street. A wide and open shop front greeted me which was bright, clean, & looked well cared for. It also had a very familiar type of styling in its outward design. Going up the few steps I entered the shop & was greeted with,

"Hi Reverend.",

by Dibs who I met during the London Hemp Fair.

Inside the coffeeshop was bright and airy with clearly designated Greenhouse style wooden counters, wooden tables & chairs, all of which matched & provided a uniform feel. There was a display counter of cakes, snacks & drinks. To the right hand side was a separate counter with extensive shelving in front of it. Stocked on these shelves were all the requisite accruements of headshops & growshops the world over. I had arrived at Beggars Belief.

Over tea I chatted with one of the regulars & locals. On the walls all over were press cuttings from the local paper all about Beggars Belief & Jeff. At length I got down to the business of joining the only known fully operational Medical Club in the land, Bud Buddies. I needed my G.P. letter, two passport photos, & two formal pieces of ID. Having completed the formal paperwork I was allowed to view the 'members facilities'. I was very impressed.

Unfortunatly due to my spur of the moment decision to come, I did not get to chat to Jeff himself. Nor did I manage to meet up with Dot. I didn't take any photo's either. My time was limited to my two hour pay & display parking ticket. Also, I was mindful of the road works I would likely have to re-negotiate on my return journey. I wanted to be out of unfamiliar territory before dark, and so it came to pass that I left Beggars Belief & returned to the van with a wrap of fish & chips mere seconds before my ticket was up.

Keep up the good work folks. I'll be back for another visit. Next time as a full member.
