Cannabis Cup 2002

Flying Dutchman's Pot Of Gold (Hindu Kush x Skunk No.1)

Just got back from theh Times Cup with High Times Flu. The tickets for the High Times event cost $225. I did not buy one. I paid for a day ticket into Expo on the Monday, £20.

Soma Of Soma Seeds

I certainly got my moneys worth from all the folks giving out vapouriser n' bong hits. I got Soma to roll me a joint of NYC Diesel. Really, really nice tastey weed. No surprise it was a Cup winner. Mila of Polinator Co. threatened to sue High Times over pictures in the Dec issue used to promote Bubble Man. Bubble Man with the help of Mark Rose ripped off Mila's Ice-o-later bags idea and claimed it for his own.

The High Times 420 Tours crew produced a map guide marking all the participating coffeeshops ect. Mila's Polinator Co was marked on the map at the old address. Missing entirely from this list was the Hemp Hotel. The Hemp Hotel held two prize draws for Cup week. I did very well winning a glass pipe, ashtray, coffeeshop guide 'Top 50' written by Wernard Bruining and 1g piece of Ice-o-later hash. Bar regulars and guests had a great time.

Sativa Sisters

Talked to one of the sexy Sativa Sisters about the scene in Canada. They had a nice stall and were giving away stash tins & hosting a competition to win a week at the Sativa Sisters Kind Sanctuary B&B Canada.

Sensi Seeds had a predictably larger stall than most. Eagle Bill was presiding over a huge vapouriser dishing out hits to anyone brave enough. Guess who ?

The Grozilla grow unit I found unconvincing. Why on earth would you want to fuck with your plants roots from a 'root cutter flap' ? Paradise seeds had a nice display on their stall. Tight arse in the Arab gear wouldn't give me a hit of any of it though.

Hitting !

Had fun with the Gravity bong man. He'd never seen anyone take the hit like that, so he said. I also enjoyed the three chamber bong. You do get a very smooth big hit out of it. But at 250 Euro's they can keep it. These guys did however donate a used one to the Hemp Hotel for the guests to use as they couldn't take home a used bong.

There was an awful lot of rivalry between venders. None of it friendly.

Folks from Coffeeshop Anytime were doing their level best to stone out everyone that passed their stall. Bluebird gave out some nice bong hits.

Sagamatha Displays

Sagamatha Display Case

There seemed to be a lot more seed companies this year. Sagamatha had a good stall and a great display case rammed full of different buds. I won the Bong hitters Comp at the Sagamatha Seeds Stall with two gravity bong hits and no pause for breath between them. I was given an 8 inch spliff and hand full of bud.

The guys who had the pot munchies stall with 'Reefers' were a rip off. Stickii of THCulinary made much better, much nicer and much stronger pot munchies that were show cased at the Amnesia Coffeeshop Tea Party on Thursday afternoon. Cakes, bon bon's and a whole hell of a lot more. Stickii even makes to order. Looks like his Sticky Treats business should do well on the back of it.

High Times gave the directions to the Amnesia Tea Party as 'Herengracht just behind Melkweg'. Melkweg is in Liedseplein, Amnesia is all the way over and a bit passed Gypsy Nirvana's Amsterdam Shop on Singel and actually on the corner of a Red Lighted straat on Herrengracht. Still, it kept the crowds away, which meant a greater choice of munchies for those who did find it.

Zoe At Work

The Hemp Hotel's artist Zoe had her own exhibition this year in a gallery at Koningsstraat 37. It was nice to see her having some success as the first time I'd met her Zoe was homeless and living on the streets of Amsterdam. Now here she was with her daughter, work, an exhibition & painting folk at the first Greenhouse coffeeshop.

I got into awards ceremony Thursday night without ticket, pass or payment. Call it Scouse charm. I made my way into the press pit. Arjan looked really pissed off not to have won one of the top awards. Perhaps he paid the wrong people this year, allegedly. I got some nice photos of the winners from the press pit, finished a roll of film on the Fun Lovin' Criminals and must have secured a place on the official video by being the only valiant bare chested leather clad Scouser pogoing through Scooby Snacks. The rest of the crowd seemed too stoned to move. Leave it to a professional to show them how to do it. By the way F.L.C. were not as good as they were at Liverpool University on July 22nd. Perhaps because they weren't sure they would get paid this time.

Went to Haarlem Saturday with Bill & John of the Orlando Med Marijuana Club. Had a great day out. We got a Coffeeshop minibus guided tour and three competition entry spliffs. All for 5 Euro's. I bought a copy of Nol van Schaik's new book "The Dutch Experience" and was quite shocked to realize that the book makes no mention of Mila Jansen at all. Even though she was operating a Tea House in 1967 called Kink 22. Five years before Mellow Yellow.

This interesting fact is however captured in a little book called "The Beginning Of Cannabis And Coffeeshops In Amsterdam" by Anne Bonney. One of the Grow Grrlzzz.

Lorna Clay of the Cannabis College did a sterling job womaning the Cannabis College stall at Pax all week.

Nice to see Merl at the Hemp Hotel. Hadn't seen him since he moved to Ibiza. He came home special so he could help his Mam at the shop during Cup week and brought a couple of cases of Green Goddess with him. Good man. I got the first shot out of a huge bottle with its own built in brass tap that was given pride of place straight on the shelf of the Hemp Hotel Bar, as it emerged from Merl's bag.

I played chess with Billy from Cannabis College. He cheated and I still won ! I left him some Glenmorangie.
