Active Stories

A form of storytelling that allows the audience to participate on a voluntary basis. As the story unfolds the audience will be encouraged to answer questions, add dialogue and take the parts of characters within it. The storyteller takes the role of the narrator.

Themes

Themes can be chosen by and discussed with the group organiser. Recent topics in schools have included Egyptian, Roman and North American Indian stories. Local legends and animal stories are popular with many groups too.

The Storyteller

Sue Hall has run drama groups and travelled extensively on theatre tours, in this country and abroad. Blending these experiences with her love of traditional tales Sue created 'Active Stories' in 1998. Ten years on she has become one of Wiltshire's leading storytellers working throughout the county and across its borders

Much of the inspiration for her approach to storytelling came from my time with
Word And Action (Dorset). It largely grew from Instant Theatre, a radical participatory form of story-gathering and acting. Over a two year period she worked extensively with the company's founder R G Gregory.
