Welcome to the Home Page of the Wakefield Historical Society. Please browse through our pages which deal with all our interests and activities.

Wakefield was formerly the county town of the West Riding of Yorkshire England, and now is the centre of Wakefield Metropolitan District. The Society has good links with the local authority, and with comparable Societies in the area. Members interests are satisfied through an annual programme of lectures, seminars and visits, while some members contribute with their own research and writings. Currently, there are members who are taking part in the long term project of indexing Wakefield newspapers.
Members have a regular newsletter, and a journal is produced containing original research by members.
