Westgate. This area was well known for its Banks and Building societies. The Yorkshire Penny Bank takes centre picture, with the Cathedral spire behind

Turning towards Westgate Station, whose clock tower was removed in the 1960's, we can see the Play house which opened in 1913, and later became the Picture House which itself closed in 1978 to become a night club

The Elephant and Castle, can be traced back to 1809, but its design here dates to the early 1900's. The turreted roof tops are on Unity Hall. Other buildings were domestic dwellings converted to quality shops.
