Warndon Villages Cobras U9's 1 V 0 Droitwich Spa Panthers U9
We knew that Droitwich would be a
good footballing side, and they didn’t disappoint. This was a monumental
‘battle’, fiercely but fairly contested.
It was clear from the beginning that
Droitwich have some very talented players, especially in midfield, and the
Cobras had to work extremely hard defensively.
The deadlock was broken mid-way
through the first half. From their goalies long and high kick, a towering header
from Seth put Sam in behind their defense. He in turn crossed to Benn L who
instinctively half-volleyed the ball fiercely into the net off the underside of
the cross bar.
Droitwich attacked us straight from
the re-start and John made some splendid saves. Frazer, Adam and Kurtis were all
tested by their fast strikers but protected our slender lead through to
half-time.
The second half was again evenly
balanced, this time Ben C proving his worth in defense. Especially pleasing was
his continual talking to his team mates.
The defining moment of the game came
when the Droitwich striker smashed the ball goalward. He looked certain to score
but Owen produced a memorable save, flinging out a strong right hand. So, 1-0 to
The Cobras….our biggest test of the season so far!
