Cobras U9's 3 V 1 Oldbury Park Tigers U9
This being our first ever competitive league game
meant that we were all a little nervous before kick-off. The first task was to
award Ben C. with the captain’s armband, which was met with a spontaneous
cheer from the rest of the team.
Our nerves were quickly settled from the very first
move of the game. From our kick-off The Cobra’s strung together 7 or 8 passes,
which led to an early corner. Kurtis swung the ball into the near post where
Seth, unmarked, steered a left foot volley into the goal.
Oldbury fought back straight away and it was only
some very determined defending from Adam that kept their number 7 at bay. 1-0 to
The Cobras at half-time.
The
start of the second half saw some lovely football from both sides and each
goalkeeper made great saves. There was a great sense of relief when Sam doubled
our lead, but it was short-lived as – to their great credit – Oldbury kept
attacking and eventually forced a goal back.
With two minutes remaining Benn broke free from his
marker and made it 3-1, which was the final score.
The whole of The Cobras squad should be
congratulated for their efforts and great team spirit.
So, a thrilling opening encounter and, we’re
sure, lots more exciting fixtures versus Oldbury to come.
