Harriers only had 10 players available for today's game and it was agreed that Warndon Sharks would only use 10 players from our 14 players available.
The game started with the Sharks pressing from the off with Andrew Murphy and James Wood instantly creating problems down both flanks. These 2 players soon combined when a good run and cross by James Wood found Andrew Murphy at the far post. Andrew struck his shot past the keeper to give the Sharks an early lead.
It was soon 2 nil when a superb cross field pass by Connor Thomasson found James Wood in space. He closed in on goal and hit a shot which was well saved. Kieran Burns hit the rebound from the keeper first time into the net. Connor was being influential in the middle of the park and set another move by spreading the play. James Ridge pressed the defender and forced a mistake . James Wood hit the cross to the far post where Andy Murphy hit a good shot which was well saved . Andy's follow up shot was skied over the cross bar.
The Sharks soon made it 3-0 when Jai Gilchrist latched onto a goal kick and attacked the last defender. Jai's cross went straight into James Ridge's path who struck the ball into the net. After 10 minutes the Sharks were 3-0 up without playing the flowing football of last week. The Sharks continued to dominate the possession and territory and created several chances. But the chances taken compared to that created was at a very low percentage. Also we had a couple of goals disallowed for offside. The best coming from some good interplay between James Wood and Matt Sowden. James took his chance well but he just drifted into an offside position just as Matt played the return pass. Then Liam Dayus almost scored a wonder goal when he went on a mazy run which beat 5 Harriers players. Liam found himself one on one with the keeper but just as he slid the ball past the impressive keeper Liam was pushed in the back and it was enough for him to knock his shot narrowly wide. Other clear chances for Andy Murphy , Jai Gilchrist , James Ridge and Matt Sowden all went begging as the half came to a close.
3-0 HT
The Sharks HT talk instructed them to up the tempo and try to use the width of the pitch to its full affect.
The Sharks should have increased the lead with the first attack of the half when a good run and cross by James Wood put Kieran Burns clear through. But the ball bobbled just in front of Kieran and the chance was gone. But within a minute a good pass through for Matt Sowden found him clear through on goal his shot was well saved but Jai Gilchrist tapped in the rebound. Jai almost added another when a ball over the top caught the defence square. The Harriers keeper cleared the ball only into Matt Sowden's path . Matt rounded the keeper and hit a shot against the upright. But within 3 minutes the Sharks did make it 5 when Jordan Slade fed Matt Sowden His good pass found Kieran Burns who drove through on goal. His miss hit shot found Jai Gilchrist at the far post and he volleyed his 2nd goal of the match.
A quick throw from James Wood found Matt Sowden whose run and cross set up a great chance for for JJ Kealey but he missed an open goal from . But almost immediately JJ picked up a goal kick which he ran back at goal. His left foot shot was brilliantly saved but as all good strikers should Jai Gilchrist followed up to tap the ball into the net. 6-0 with the Sharks opening the 2nd half with far more desire and passing football. James Wood then opened his scoring account for the Shark when a good move down the left ended with a cross which found James Wood at the far post. He calmly passed the ball into the net. Jai Gilchrist then turned provider to when a delivered a very good diagonal pass into Matt Sowden. Matt rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into the net to make it 8-0. as ever the Sharks pride themselves on keeping clean sheets but an alert Harriers forward blocked a Connor Thomasson pass. He then sped past Connor and struck a pin point shot into the net. The same player almost did the same thing a couple of minutes later but this time Harry Stanley made a good save by narrowing the angle. The Sharks missed several good chances as they did in te first with shots form Matt Sowden, Sam Langston and James Ridge all going close. The Sharks did finish the game by adding 2 more quick fire goals. Matt Sowden scored his 2nd of the game calmly rounding the keeper then just before the end James Ridge added the finishing touches when a right wing cross found James in acres of space.
A good result but not with same attractive football from the previous weeks game. The Sharks did create more chances than the previous game and did play very well in patches. But poor finishing prevented the Sharks from doubling the 10 goals scored.
