2008-2009
Season
Brief overview of the Season
This
was our 2nd season based at Perdiswell Leisure Centre.
Warndon Villages registered 14 teams into 3 different
leagues (Mercian , Stourport , Central Warwickshire)
With most of our mini Soccer teams playing their
matches at the Leisure centre.
The Cobras and Rhinos played their games at Little
Perdiswell due to only having 2 pitches at Perdiswell
Leisure Centre.
The Fun day was held at the Leisure Centre with
special guest of honour being Peter Shilton , ex
England , Leicester and Notts Forest Keeper. He
mingled round and awarded prizes to the winners of the
tournaments.
The Warndon Villages presentation was held at Elgar
High School. The format of the presentation was better
with the Slide show and music making it far more
enjoyable.
WARNDON
Villages Football Club have been honoured for their
work over the past year with a prestigious award.
The club has been handed a plaque by the
Worcestershire Football Association at Elgar
Technology College, Bilford Road, Worcester, to
mark their elevation to community club status .It is
the top award given by the county FA and recognises
the club’s work in developing boys’ and girls’
football. Warndon Villages, who will run 23 teams next
season, have signed a sponsorship deal to use fair
trade footballs.
Also Warndon Villages have become the First club in
Worcester to achieve this status.
Teams playing during our 8th season
Cobras
U8 / Rhinos U8
Scoprions U9
Lions U10/Tigers U10/Piranhas U10/Falcons U10
Pumas U11/Sharks U11
Vipers U12 / Wolves U13
Wildcats U10 / Wildcats U15 / Wildcats U17
Under
8's
Warndon Villages had 2 teams playing
friendlies
during the season with the Cobras and the Rhinos.
Both teams improved during the season and are looking
forward to their first season of competitive
football next season.
Under
9's
Warndon Scorpions had a good year and were always
positioned in the top half of the Mercian Div 1 table.
The Scorpions finished a creditable 4th and will
hopefully push on next season and start to compete
with the top teams.
Under
10's
In this age group Warndon villages have
5 teams.
All 4 had their moments during the Season.
The
Tigers came 4th in a tough Division 1 of the Mercian
league.
While fellow Mercian league team the Lions had a
stunning league campaign by going unbeaten winning 16
and drawing 4 of their games in the Mercian League Div
2.
We also have 2 teams in the Stourport League. The
Piranhas play in division one and finished mid table
in a league with several good teams. On their day the
piranhas could beat any team in this league and put up
several good performances against the top teams.
In
division 2 the Falcons played good football all year
but only started to get their just desserts when they
went 9 games unbeaten. Form which could easily had
seen them challenge the top teams if they had started
in the same vein.
The big success story for Warndon was the Wildcat
under 10's winning the Girls U10 division and cup
double in their first season. A superb achievement in
their first season together.
Under
11's
The Pumas had a decent season having to
consolidate in division 2 of the Mercian league. They
stayed down in the same age group and they became a
far more competitive team. Despite losing James
Stevens to the Sharks the Pumas showed they had other
good players and finsihed the season in a strong
midtable position. They will be hoping to push on next
season in 11 a side football.
The
Sharks had another exceptional year . They went he
season unbeaten in the league winning 24 and drawing 3
of their 27 league games. They also reached the cup
final and despite creating the better chances they
were beaten by the slightly better team on the day.
They lost 5-3 on pens. Liam Dayus did win the Man of
the Match Trophy. The Sharks also won the Stourport
League nomination for the Fair Play trophy which the
Worcestershire FA awarded to the Sharks.. Another
tremendous season for the Sharks.
Under
12's
The Vipers got to the 1/4 final of the cup and
finished mid table in division 2 of the Mercian
league. They had the help of 2 Sharks (Kieran Burns /
Liam Dayus) and a Puma (Matt Heywood). All 3 players
making a considerable input into the team.
Under 13's
The Wolves finished the season on a high with
their finish to the season producing several good
results an performances. The Wolves will be looking to
improve their league position for next season
2007-2008
Season
This was a new
start for Warndon Villages FC as we moved
our home base from Claines Lane to
Perdeswell Leisure Centre. This would
give Warndon the use of some very good
facilities at the Sports Centre. Warndon Villages also
held their Presentation evening and Fun day at
Perdiswell leisure Centre. We thank Perdiswell eisure
Centre for their help during the season.
Over the season it proved to be a big
success as their were very few games
cancelled. In our seventh season Warndon
Villages entered 12 teams in the Mercian
, Stourport and for the first time the
Central Warwickshire leagues. The teams
entered into the leagues were as follows
8’s
Scorpions, Andy Hall, Mercian
U9’s Lions, Gary Dicker, Mercian -
Piranhas, Matt Dale, Stourport - Tigers,
Jason Brown, Mercian
U10s,
Sharks, Geoff Stanley, Stourport
U11s, Pumas, Terry Smith, Mercian -
Vipers, Mark Waidson, Mercian
U12s
boys, Chris Lumley, Mercian
U13 boys, Mike McGrath, Stourport -
U14 girls, Wildcats, Tim Meese,
Mercian
U15 girls, Wildcats, Pete Tomlins, West
Midland
U16 girls, Wildcats, Andy Maynard, West
Midland.
Unfortunately
the Boys U13 team folded midway through
the season leaving us with 11 teams.
Again the development centre was thriving
with a planned 2 under 8's teams already
being organised for next season. Terry
Smith who manages the development centre
was doing a good job in ensuring the
children in the centre played in a safe ,
enjoyable and competitive environment.
Under
8's
The Scorpions were playing in the league
for the first time this season.
As the season progressed the Scorpions
managed to climb up the league and ended
in a very good 3rd place in the Mercian
League.
Under 9's
We have 3 teams in this age group.
The Lions managed by Dave Allen played in
the Mercian League division 2. Despite
finishing in the lower reaches of the
league their football performance did not
mirror their league position. As the
season went on again the team's
performances improved . It is hoped they
will have a good season in 2008-2009.
The Tigers who played in division 1 of
the Mercian finished the league in a very
good 3rd position. Again another team who
were playing some good football.
The Piranhas played in the Stourport
league and showed improvement from last
season. A league position of 4th
and a cup semi-final eventually
losing to cup winners Coombs Wood
Colts.
Under 10's
In this age group we only have 1 team but
what we lack in quantity we make up for
in quality. The Sharks had a tremendous
season winning the Stourport Division 1 by
a massive 17 points and winning the cup
final 1-0 against Kidderminster Lions.
This team played some terrific football
over the season with several football
club scouts being spotted watching this
team. (Wolves , Leicester etc)
Under
11's We have 2 teams in this age group.
The Vipers got promoted last season
despite only finishing 6th in Division 2.
The concern was this may be a step too
far. In the end despite battling hard and
never giving up the Vipers ended up
bottom of Division 1.
The Whippets played in Division 2 of this
age group. Most of the Whippets players
were actually U10's and despite this they
still won a few games during the season.
Some of the results from this season bodes
well for next year as they will be
staying in there own age group.
Under
12's The
Wolves completed their first full season at 11 a side football.
Despite it being a difficult season the Wolves team they managed to win some
games in a very tough division 1 of the Mercian League. In the end they
did enough to maintain their division 1 status . With several of their
players playing a year above themselves this was no mean achievement.
Under
13's Boys
Despite starting the season in Divison 1 of the
Stourport League the team had to fold after 2 months
of the season.
U14 girls, Wildcats,
From a fairly disastrous
start to the season, the Wildcats rallied and gained a
very credible 14 points from a possible 18 during the
second third of the season. The final six games saw us
gain a further 10 points to finish on a season total
of 25, reaching our highest position of 6th
in the league, only 3 points off second place. We saw
some highs and lows during the final run-in, with a
1-7 defeat at Phoenix Lions and a 9-1 win away at our
closest neighbours, Worcester Wanderers.
During
this time, by invitation from Worcestershire F.A, we
entered the Tesco Cup. We beat Newtown 2-1 in the
semi-final. Two weeks later we met Cookley in the
final, running out 2-1 winners and lifting the cup,
the first piece of silverware won by a Warndon
Villages girl’s team. The winning goal, scored by
Becky Lewis, was worthy of any final as it went into
the top right corner from 20 yards out. As County Cup
winners, we now have the honour of representing
Worcestershire in the SW Region finals at Bath,
against Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershir
e and Herefordshire.
We
wrap up our regular season with a trip to the
Women’s F.A. Cup Final at Nottingham Forest on Bank
Holiday Monday 5th May. After the summer,
we start to think about next season with some optimism
as the full squad have confirmed that they wish to
continue and we hope with a better start, that we have
a very good chance of challenging for the league!
Tim Meese Manager
U15 girls, Wildcats,
The Wildcats girls U15 competed for the first time in
the Central Warwickshire league.
With more teams and a higher standard this was
always going to be a difficult season. But to the
girls credit they more than held their own in this
division and finished in the top half of the table
which contained more than 14 teams.
U16 girls, Wildcats,
Again the U 16 also swapped league to play in the
Central Warwickshire league. The standard was
higher and despite playing well they finished in
the bottom half of the table during their first
season in this league.
2006-2007
Season
Warndon Villages were looking forward to
a new start and new season with several
new teams being formed.
The Piranhas Under
8's , Tigers U8's and Vipers U10's all
starting their first league campaigns .
Warndon were also fielding their first 11
a side Boys team in Stourport Division 1
- U12 section. So with so many new teams
we were hoping for a season of
improvement and enjoyment.
In our 6th season
Warndon Villages entered 10 teams into
the leagues:-
-U8's Piranhas
/U8'sTigers /U9's Hawks / U9's
Sharks
/ U10's Lions / U10's
Vipers/
U11's Wolves /
U12's Boys / U13
girls Wildcats / U15 Wildcats/.
The development center was going from
strength to strength with the numbers in
the younger age groups continuing to
increase. Hopefully these should continue
to feed players into the Under 8's league
teams and ensure the growth of Warndon
Villages.
In the
under 8's the Piranhas and
Tigers both had encouraging seasons. The
Piranhas started very well in the
Stourport U8's league and at one time
headed their league . While the Tigers
had a slow start drawing a lot of their
games but as the season went on their
results improved and the team look as if
they will be force to be reckoned with
next season.
In the
under 9's section the Sharks
were hoping to build on last season good
form. In fact they more than lived up to
their promise and ended up winning the
Stourport Under league by a clear 11
points. They also reached the Cup final
but were beaten by a hardworking Bewdley
Team. Well done the Sharks on winning the
league.
The Hawks were hoping to improve from
last season and as I write this they are
in a top half of the table position with
the possibilty of the team finishing in
5th place in a league of 14 teams.All you
can ask for is for teams to improve and
enjoy their football. The Hawks certainly
have improved. Well done Hawks and to
Wendy Bennett who has overseen the Hawks
jump up the league.
In the under 10's section
the Lions had a lot to live up to after
last seasons excellent season. But with
several players either staying in their
own age group or leaving the team had to
rebuild. Despite this it looks as if they
will finish in a very respectable 4th
position in a high standard league. The
Lions also lost their Star defender
during the season (Mitchell Tomlinson).
He was signed by the Wolves academy and
was not able to play for the Lions.
Therefore John Court Jones and Paul
Tomilinson did a very good job in keping
the Lions in the upper reaches of this
division.
The 2nd under 10's team were the Vipers
coached by Mark Waidson.
The Vipers were a brand new team so were
not expecting too much./
Most players in the Vipers had not played
any league football but you would not
have believed that with some of the
results and performances acheived . By
the end of the season they had shown a
huge improvement and their league
position did not mirrior the standard of
football the Vipers had produced. The
Vipers will no doubt be looking to get
promotion out of division 2 next season. In the under 11's The
Wolves played thier first season in league football. Despite not having
as much experience compared to other teams in this league the Wolves
did very well to finish in a respectable mid table psoition. The Wolves
finished 8th out of 15 teams.
In the under 12's The
U12 boys got promoted from division 2 last season and as expected had a
tough time in division 1 . But as the season progressed the boys form
improved and in the end finished a creditable 8th position out of 12
teams. The highlight for the U12 boys was winning the Nunnery Tournament in the summer.
Wildcat
U13's The
wildcat U13 had a good season and came within 3 points of getting the
runners up spot in the league. In the end they finished in 4th place in
a very competitive league.
Wildcat U15's The
wildcat U15 proved to be a difficult team to beat and on their day
could beat the best in the league but inconsistncy proved to be the
achilles heel of this team .A league finish of 5th from 7 teams did not
truly reflect the efforts of this team
2005-2006
SeasonThe season started
with disappointment for the club with the
boys under 12's eleven a side team having
to fold before it had a chance to get
going. But as the summer went on things
got considerably better .
The Girls section
amalgamated with the Worcester Wildcats
this enabled the club to field 2 girls
team in the Mercian league for the first
time. The girls did well in summer
knockouts to give themselves a lot of
hope that the coming season would be a
good one.
The Sharks U8's
proved to be the form team in the summer
knockouts . They won the Hasbury Rangers
festival of football Tournament and lost
in the semis at the Halas Hawks
competition . The Lions U9's also fell at
this hurdle in the Halas Hawks
tournament.
The Development
centre at Claines Lane was still going
strong and starting to provide the teams
with even more players. But the club were
very optimistic that the teams could
provide Warndon Villages with their best
season yet.
In the 5th season
the club entered a record Ten teams
:-U8's Hawks
./U8'sSharks /U9's Lions /
U9's Pumas
/ U10's Leopards / U10's
Badgers/
U11's Jaguars /
U11's Falcons / U12
girls Wildcats / U14 Wildcats/.
The Hawks , Pumas
and Badgers were enjoying there first
season of competitive football . But the
Sharks , Lions, Leopards , Falcons and
both Wildcats teams were all hoping to
progress during the season.
This in fact was the way it worked out
with the club having its most successful
year with regards to winning trophies.
The Sharks won the
under 8's league completed before Xmas .
Then when the league was split into 2
they ended up runners up . They had to
win there last game to win the league but
ended up drawing 1-1 to Worcester Colts
who narrowly beat them to the title.
The Lions had a
fantastic year culminating in reaching
the Cup final for their age group . As it
was they ended up losing 2-0 to
Kidderminster Lions in the final. They
also ended up clear runners up in the
league .
The Hawks did very
well in their first season and as the
league progressed they were showing signs
that next season could well be better.
The Pumas kept
losing games by the odd goal. Despite
finishing in the bottom half of the
division it could well of been a
different story if some of these tight
games the Pumas kept losing had gone the
other way.
The Badgers proved
to be a difficult team to beat in their
league and gave a good account of
themselves in their first league
campaign.
The Jaguars who
certainly had players of talent in their
ranks were unable to be consistent enough
during the season to ensure a top half of
the table finish.
The Leopards nearly
provided WVFC with their first cup
triumph. They were 3-0 up early in the
2nd half but a fantastic come back by
Coombs Wood Colts took the game into
extra time. In the end the Leopards lost
on sudden death penalties. In the League
despite looking as if they could possibly
challenge for the runners up spot the
Leopards faded slightly over their last
few games and finished mid table.
The Falcons had a
good season eventually finishing runners
up in the Stourport Div 2 , gaining
promotion
.
While both Girls teams provided WVFC with
further trophy success by winning their
respective Mercian league division 2
titles.
A superb season for
all the teams showed that WVFC had come a
long way in a short time.
But unfortunately the club was about to
loose 2 of the teams . The Leopards and
Pumas decided to break away from the
Warndon Villages umbrella and create
their own club (Worcester Youth).
The season was
finished off by a very successful Funday
held a Claines Lane. The highlight being
the Coaches defeat at the hands of the
parents. This was followed by the
Presentation at the Park. Where all the
children who were registered with the
club were presented with a well earned
trophy. Guest presenter of the trophies
was the Clubs Founder Lynn Gardner.
2004-2005
Season
In the 4th season the club entered a
record seven teams :-U8'Lions
./U8'sSharks/U9's Leopards/ U10's
Jaguars/ U11's/ Eagles/U12 girls
Panthers.
Before the season
actually started an amalgamation of the
Sharks and the Lions ended up winning the
Halas Hawks Under 7's competition .
Beating a tough Kidderminster Lions
outfit 3-2 after extra time.
This was the first
competition the club had won in its
history to date
Warndon Villages
were hoping to see an improvement in
fortunes over the coming season. In
the end the teams had varying amounts of
success.
The
Lions stayed down in there age group and
acquitted themselves by playing some very
good football to finish a creditable 3rd
in the Stourport Div 1 league . The
Sharks U8's started the season superbly
and did not lose a game in their first 10
league games but eventually faded
slightly to finish a very good 4th place
in their first league season. The
Leopards were as ever very competitive
but did not live up to last season
performances . The Jaguars playing their
first league season proved to be nobodies
whipping boys over a very encouraging
first year . The Hares who got promoted
last season played some good football in
the Mercian league division 1 but kept
losing games by the odd goal. While the
Eagles ended up winning the Warndon
Villages club its first League title by
winning the U11 Stourport league Division
2 title after proving to be the most
consistent team in their division. The
Panthers showed they had improved
considerable from last season and were
starting to get a very good reputation in
the league .The Panthers eventually
getting runners up spot in their league.
This was a very
encouraging season for the club as a
whole with the Eagles taking pride of
place but the Panthers also not far
behind . Also well done to the Under 7's
in winning the Halas Hawks tournament in
the summer.
The club held its presentation night at
the Worcester University Students Bar.
The club were
hoping to expand the teams to 11 for the
2005-2006 season. With the First 11a side
boys team being part of the plan,
Hopefully amalgamating the Hares and the
Eagles into 1 team.
2003-2004
Season
In our 3rd season
we increased the number of teams entered
into the leagues to 5. With two Under 8's
teams being entered into the Stourport
Youth League (Leopards,Lions) , two Under
10's teams entered into the Mercian
league (Beavers and Hares) and a Under
12's girls team (Panthers) also being
entered into the Mercian League . Again
all teams competed very well with the
Leopards and Hares finishing 3rd in their
respective leagues . Both Beavers and
Leopards reached the Semi-Finals of their
cup competitions . The Lions gave
everybody they played a very good game .
The Panthers first season ended with a
superb run of form , showing they were
improving as the season progressed.
At the Development the center the numbers
increased further with well over 100
children registered.
All enjoying the opportunity to play
football in a supervised environment.
At the end of the season we held a very
successful Fun day at Worcester City's
Football Ground (St Georges Lane) . With
all children taking part in a junior
football competition and a very
competitive game between the Parents and
the Coaches .
We also held our Presentation evening at
the Archdales Club with all children at
the club receiving a trophy for their
efforts during the season.
2002-2003
Season
The second season for the club started
with 2 teams being into the Mercian Elgar
Under 9's League .Both teams (Beavers and
Hares) competed
very well in their first season in the
league . With the Beavers finishing a
creditable 3rd . We also maintained our
coaching centre at the Lyppard Grange
Primary School, Warndon Villages .
Happylands in Whittington Village &
the County Sports Ground in Claines Lane
were also used.
With the numbers
attending the coaching center it was
proving to be a big success .
During the season a
very successful Quiz night was held at
the Lyppard Grange community centre with
the proceeds going to the club funds.
The season was finished off with a very
enjoyable presentation evening held at
Lyppard Grange Community centre . Dave
Busst the ex Coventry City centre Half
was there to present the awards to the
children.
2001 - 2002
Season
The Warndon
Villages Football club was set up in
October 2001 after a Warndon Villages Mum
(Lynn Gardner) decided that there was of
lack facilities for young kids in the
area. The club started by coaching 60
children at a training centre based at
Lyppard Grange Primary School . By the
end of the first season, the club had
more than 100 members
To finish off a very successful first
season, a presentation evening was held
at the Lyppard Grange Community centre.
Mark Owen of Worcester City fame was on
hand to present the awards to the
children.
