A MATCH FOR ELEPHANT ‘LATABE’
An
African Elephant at West
Midland Safari Park, famed for her footy exploits
has at last met her match, as two budding football
stars from Warndon
Villages Football Club tested her skills to the
limit.
West
Midland Safari Park were invited to support the Club
by helping provide kit for two of their junior teams -
the Rhinos (Under 9’s) and Tigers (Under 11’s) –
and what better opportunity than showing off their new
strip than at half term.
A
chance to meet elephant Latabe was the icing on the
cake for two members from the Club – Jack Davies
(age 9) representing the Tigers and Alex Maund (age 8)
the Rhinos. Both boys from Worcester were delighted to
hear of Latabe’s extraordinary football skills and
enjoyed every moment.
Latabe’s
skills were first recognized last year, when she
started kicking a ball around during playtime.
As her Keeper was passionate about football
too, Latabe proved to be the perfect opponent and
appeared to know exactly how to play.
Warndon
Villages Football Club was founded in 2001 and is now
the premier children’s football club in the city of
Worcester. Having been awarded FA Charter standard
Community Club Status in early 2009, WVFC as it is
often known, now provides football for over 250
children and adults.
A
spokesperson for West Midland Safari Park said,
“It’s been great working with WVFC; their aim of
making the game accessible to all, requires great
effort, support and dedication, which they certainly
display. It
was lovely to meet the boys and see their new kit –
which looks super. We are delighted to have been able
to help the Club and wish them a very successful
season”.
West
Midland Safari Park closes for winter on Friday, 6th
November 2009.
Wild
Winter Weekends start on Sunday, 8th
November 2009 and the Park continues to open every
weekend until 7th February 2010. The Park

Each month this section will be updated to
inform you how WVFC teams are progressing over the
season
Mini Soccer
Stourport League
Under 9
Warndon Rhinos U9 have
had a tough month having to play all the top sides in
the league.
But a win against Worcester Colts and other good
performances against Nunnery Scorpions and
Kidderminster Athletic in the cup show the boys are
improving. In these games they have only conceded 3
goals and look far more organised at the back. The cup
defeat against Kiddy Athletic was a close game and the
Rhinos nearly took it into extra time when a shot in
the last minutes hit the outside of the post.
Under 11 Div 1
Warndon Piranhas U11 have made a solid
start to the league having won 3 drawn 2 and lost 2 of
their first 7 league games. This keeps them in 5th
position. The cup draw was not kind to the Piranhas
and they had to play a Droitwich Foxes team in good
form a lost the game 3-1
Warndon Lions U11 have moved from the
Mercian League to the Stourport League and have had a
tough start to the season. They have managed to get
their first point of the season and it was against
club rival Warndon Piranhas. Hopefully
this should encourage the team and results will
improve over the coming weeks.
Under 11 Div 2
Warndon Falcons currently lie in 8th out of
12 teams. They have won 2 of their 7 games and
hope to improve over the next few games so they can
climb up the table.

Stourport League
Under 12
Warndon Sharks
have had a very good
start to the league season winning 8 out of 8 games
scoring 52 goals and only conceding 2. Their last
league game was against title challengers and local
rivals Nunnery Tigers. The Sharks came out 2-0 winners
and will be hoping to gain a similar result in this
weeks cup match against the same opposition.
Mini Soccer
Mercian League
Under 9
Warndon Cobras U9 are
also unbeaten this season and have a 100 % record in
their first league campaign so far. Over the next 2
weeks they are playing Newtown Sports who currently
lie in 2nd place behind the Cobras. This will give the
Cobras some idea how their season may
pan out for them.
Under 10 Div 1
Warndon Scorpions have had some excellent
results but currently have won 2 lost 2 and drawn 1 of
their 5 games. They are currently in 7th position and
will be looking to improve this over the coming weeks.
Under 10 Div 2
Warndon Hawks are in the their first season
and will be looking to improve as the season goes on.
They are currently at the bottom of the league but
will be gaining valuable experience as the season
progresses. Under
11 Div 1
Warndon Tigers are doing well in Div 1 and
lie in a good 4th place having won 3 and lost one of
their 4 games.
Under 11 Div 2
Warndon Phoenix have started well in their
fist campaign. They have been involved in some exciting
games and their recent 6-5 defeat against Northside
Colts being a fine example. Under
10 Girls
Wildcat U10's currently lie in 3rd place
having lost just one of their first 5 games. That came
against current top team FerndaleYouth. Hopefully they
will be in the mix towards the end of the season.
Under 11 Girls
Wildcat U11 have only player 3 games but
have won all 3 and lie in 2nd place with 2 games in
hand on top place Droitwich Spa leopards. After last
years league and cup double the Wildcat U11 will be
hoping for similar success. 11

Mercian League
Under 12
Another
unbeaten team is the Warndon Pumas who have won
all 4 of their league games. Due to a late
cancellation they were docked 3 points and because of
this they lie in 3rd place. The Pumas
have several new players and are also helping to blood
some of the U11's playing for other Warndon teams.
They are hoping to have a decent season.
Under 13
Warndon Vipers have gone 6 games unbeaten
in their Div 2 campaign this season and lie in third
place. The Vipers have won 3 and drawn 3 and are
hoping to be pushing for promotion this season.
Under 14
Warndon Villages Wolves are currently
struggling in the in their Under 14 division having
lost 5 out of 5 games. The Wolves have
played some of the top teams in this division and will
be hoping to get better results in the coming weeks.
Central Warwickshire
League
Wildcats U16
The U16 lie in
a good 3rd position in division 1 having won 3 and
lost 2 of their 5 games.
Wildcats U18
The U18's are not doing as well as their U16
counter parts and currently lie one place of the
bottom in the Premier division.
