About The North of Scotland The North of Scotland offers a varied range of landscapes. Caithness is very flat with a rocky coastline providing excellent sea-fishing and sub-aqua opportunities. Caithness has a variety of lochs which are renowned for their prolific trout, and salmon are found in the rivers. There are two main towns, Thurso and Wick and lots of small villages which all offer their own glimpses of the local history. Wick has a very good heritage centre and Thurso has a Castle, heritage centre and for those wishing more up to the minute pastimes, a cinema and bowling alley as well. Because so many villages in Caithness are situated near the sea there are some wonderful harbours to visit. Some of the attractions in Thurso:
